Barbara Werner, 82, of E. Condot Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Penn Highlands Elk.
She was born July 19, 1941 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Edwin and Ethel Woods Wittman. She was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1959 and continued her education graduating from Lock Haven State Teachers College in 1963, where she earned her degree in Health and Physical Education.
On June 19, 1967, in Sacred Heart Church, she married the late Joseph F. Werner, who preceded her in death on March 16, 2009.
Barbara is survived by a brother-in-law, Carl Werner. After the death of Carl’s parents, Joe and Barbara were pleased to have Carl make his home with them during his younger years and later on, to be so warmly included with his family, wife, and children. Also surviving are brothers: John “Elroy” Wittman of St. Marys and Michael Wittman (Marcie) of Centre Hall; sisters-in-law: Anne Proske of Ridgway and Sarah “Sallie” Wittman of St. Marys; nieces and nephews, whom she was so proud of and honored to be a part of some of the most important events of their lives.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin “Pike” Wittman; a sister-in-law, Maureen Wittman; a brother-in-law, Joseph Proske; and a niece, Julia Braccia.
“Aunt Bee” loved butterflies, bees, cats, and cars. Most of all, she loved get-togethers with family and friends, the Pool Pals, the Domino Dames, the bridge group, and class lunches.
As a business woman, she successfully headed the family business partnership for twenty-five years. In the early nineties, after a long battle with cancer, she formed a cancer support group which met on a regular basis for a number of years. She was a qualified member of the Look Better, Feel Better program and helped many people through their trying journeys with cancer.
Barbara had an unwavering faith in God through good times and bad and appreciated the many blessings He bestowed on her. She lived life to the fullest, was a comfort to many and never passed up a chance to laugh and have fun.
A funeral service will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 10:30AM with Rev. Jeffery Noble, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
A visitation will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 9:30AM until the time of service.

I met Barb 65 years ago when she became my roommate at college. She was my Maid of Honor at my wedding in 1962. Over the years we never lost touch, seeing each other more or less as our life situations dictated. About six years ago, she joined me, along with four other women friends from Lock Haven, on a cruise and became my roommate again. It was a wonderful trip and we laughed from beginning to end telling the old stories and experiencing new ones. She was so much fun and her laugh was contagious.
We planned to do another cruise the next winter, but our ship hit a concrete dock in San Juan, underwent some repairs there, and by the time it got back to Ft. Lauderdale for more repairs, our ten day cruise was down to four. We opted not to go. Barb insisted we all go out to see Pike, whose house in Florida was in the area. We were graciously welcomed and spent the afternoon and had supper with them.
I met her last fall at the Eye Clinic where I wanted her to help me pick out glasses frames. She assured me that she wouldn’t be very good at something like that, but she was. We picked out two pair which I eventually ordered and I love both of them. Again, lots of laughs in the process followed by lunch at the Village Peddler. Then she took me to a memorial garden near the hospital. She felt good that day, we had a very pleasant few hours together, and it’s a wonderful last memory of her.
Barb was my golfing buddy when I lived in Saint Marys. She was a wonderful, caring person with a fun loving heart. My condolences to her family.
Barb was a wonderful person. I enjoyed our conversations when she came in for her dental appointments. She will be missed. Your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Please accept my deepest and heartfelt sympathy on the passing of Barbara. She was my maid of honor when Bob Anderson and I married in 1964. Although we rarely saw one another, we had long phone conversations and shared much laughter, as well as tears, when both our husbands passed away. May she now know the Lord’s love for her. She was a special lady with a big and loving heart for her family and friends. It was my privilege to have known Barb.
