David E. Otteni, 77, most recently of St. Marys, formerly of North Collins, NY, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022, at Freedom Village in Coatesville, PA.
He was born September 9, 1944, in Erie, son of the late Theodore and Leda Kilbane Otteni. Dave grew up in Erie, graduated from Strong Vincent High School, Class of 1963, and continued his education at Edinboro University, where he graduated in 1967. Dave had an impact on numerous lives while he taught Biology and Science at North Collins High School as well as for the Buffalo School District.
On August 24, 1968 in the Queen of the World Church, Dave married Constance Louise Meyer, who survives.
Along with his wife Connie, he is survived by his son, Theodore D. Otteni and his wife Alisa of Chester Springs; three grandchildren: Garrett, Jacob, and Danylle; a daughter-in-law, Melissa Wurm Otteni of St. Marys; a sister, Carol Williams and her husband Jeff of Waterford, PA; by many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his son, Terrence “Terry” Otteni on September 3, 2005.
Dave was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Free and Accepted Masons, where he was Past Master of Fortune Lodge #788 and served as District Deputy Grand Master of the Second Erie District.
He simply loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed boating, walking, gardening, and landscaping. He took his family on camping trips when they were kids and also enjoyed taking his grandkids (and many others) on walks through the woods to learn about nature.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, May 13, 2022, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM.

Dear Connie and family, we just found out about the tragic passing of Dave. May God wrap his arms around you at this tragic time and give you strength. We did not know Dave for very long, but we enjoyed every minute that we spent with both of you. We had some great times at the Moose Club in Florida, trips on the pontoon boat in Florida and Pa. We will miss you Dave. we love you Connie.
We are sorry to learn of David’s passing but take solace in his new pain free existence. We love all of you dearly and have each of you in our prayers.

Dave and Connie were a very important part of my parents’ world. Your Erie visits brought them great joy. Not too long ago Dave loved his sail on the Brig Niagara as we watched and waved from ashore. May his memory of a life well lived bring you comfort and peace. With deepest sympathy.
I’m so deeply sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. So many years have passed since I’ve talked with you and Dave. You both were our dear dear friends and a flood of wonderful memories will always be with me of our fun times together. My husband and Dave were close friends since school and then he met you Connie and we all became good friends. You, Ted and family are in my thoughts and prayers. Dave and Connie were a special part of my mom’s family. She enjoyed their company so much when they would travel to Erie in the camper and stop for a visit on the back porch. Sending my love to all. Hold onto the special memories you shared together.

Connie and family, my condolences for your loss. Dave was my 9th grade science teacher and I can remember my mom babysitting Teddy and Terry. Later he and Connie became good friends through the Masonic Lodge in North Collins. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

To a dear friend and former boss at BlueCross BlueShield of WNY I send my sincere condolences at the loss of your husband. Connie you have been and still are in my thoughts since you left BlueCross. I think of you often and wonder how you are. I’m retired now since 2014 having returned for work on the annual HEDIS project for several years. I hope you are doing the best possible and have support around you.

Mr. Otteni was an excellent teacher and role model at North Collins Central School. He knew how to make learning Biology and science interesting. He had a great sense of humor. Very sorry for your loss.

I remember Dave from our time spent supervising a study hall together at Riverside High School. Dave had a great sense of humor and laugh. My condolences to his family.
I have very fond memories of time spent with the Otteni family over the years. All of you always so very warm and welcoming. Dave you led a life well lived. You will be missed.
Dave and I were fellow winter Floridians living in the same park in Leesburg, FL. He loved Florida. It turned out that our homes were only 70 miles apart in PA so we became both Florida and Pennsylvania friends. We spent a lot of time together becoming best friends, however Connie was always Dave’s first priority. I traveled to Coatesville to visit him less than a month ago. We discussed eternity and Dave assured me that he had made the necessary arrangements therefore I will look forward to seeing my friend again in heaven.
I worked with Dave at Straub Brewery in our retirement years and we had a good time. We used to pull pranks on one another and would have a good laugh about it. He was a nice guy. My condolences to the family.
Dave, you and Connie were our saving graces when we had our boys. We had to basically live in Buffalo and you supported us fully. Your gratitude and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten and will remain in our hearts forever. We will miss and love you always. Love, Bill and Marcy
