Dennis E. Bauer | 77

October 15, 1943 - January 4, 2021

Dennis E. Bauer, 77, of 137 Upper Cherry Road, Kersey, passed away Monday, January 4, 2021, at Penn Highlands Elk, after a brief illness.

He was born October 15, 1943, in St. Marys, son of the late William “Shiba” and Agnes Sterley Bauer.  Dennis was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School.  He was a retired employee of the former Bi-Lo.

On August 14, 1965, Dennis married Anita Marie Cesa Bauer, who preceded him in death on April 16, 1993.

On May 29, 2004, in the First United Methodist Church in St. Marys, Dennis married Susan C. Hess, who survives.  He is also survived by his daughter, Tonia Mountis and her husband Gus of Lititz, PA; two sons: Brian Bauer and his wife Trudy of Lancaster, PA, and Daryl Bauer and his wife Erica of St. Marys; his step-daughter, Stacy McGonigal; his step-son, Timothy Cerula; seven grandchildren: Marlee Winslow, Daulton Bauer, Payton Bauer, Breigh Bauer, Braden Bauer, Anthony Mountis, and Nicholas Mountis; four step-grandchildren: Ellie McGonigal, Samantha McGonigal, Matthew Cerula, and Jaxon Cerula; and by his brother, William “Bump” Bauer of St. Marys.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Dennis was preceded in death by his infant son, Raymond Bauer; and by his sister, Barbara “Babs” Trumbull.

Dennis was a veteran of the United States Army.  He was a collector of antiques, including old gas pumps, Pepsi and Petroleum memorabilia, which he enjoyed restoring.  He loved classic cars and collected Case knives.  Dennis was also an avid fan of Elvis and the oldies.

There will be no visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Ross Miceli, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN  38101-9908.

  2. Sending condolences to Denny’s family. We always had a good laugh about the old times on Rightmeyer St. Prayers and hugs to the family.

  3. Mr. Bauer brought his tractor, snow thrower, etc. to me once in awhile, and he always made my day with his stories. I am so sorry he is gone and he will surely be missed.
