She was born March 23, 1941 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Alfred and Virginia “Scotty” Bauer.  She was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1959.

On November 5, 1977, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Gloria married the late Leo J. Harvey, Sr., who preceded her in death on November 20, 1995.

Gloria was a renown pianist, who began her career playing the piano at the age of seven, with her father who was a drummer that was in an orchestra.  She furthered her music education at the St. Louis Institute of Music.  Her talents gave her the opportunity to play at the Carnegie Music Hall in New York City.  She was a professional piano and organ teacher for many years and was a chartered member of the Musicians Union since 1953.  Locally she did a lot of entertaining for banquets and parties, participating in Hal Garvin’s dance recitals for several years and the local nursing homes to entertain the residents there.  She belonged to the St. Mary’s Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, and the St. Ann’s Society.

Gloria and her husband, Leo, loved going to Penn State games.  They did a lot of entertaining at their home with friends and family.  She did some traveling to South America with the Benedictine Brazilian Missions of Vinhedo, Brazil and also traveled to Italy to visit her relatives.  She will truly be missed, especially her feistiness and joke telling.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 10:00AM with Rev. Ignatius Camello, O.S.B., celebrating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
