James T. Long | 76

November 16, 1946 - May 17, 2023

James T. Long, 76, of St. Marys, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born November 16, 1946 in St. Marys, son of the late, James F. and Caroline Lechner Long.  He was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of St. Marys High School.  He started his career at Speer Carbon and retired from SGL in 2008.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country in Vietnam as a tank operator.

On January 19, 1977, in St. Marys, Jim married Elyse Mitchell, who survives.

Along with his loving wife, Jim is survived by two daughters: Kristi Burgin (Mark) of Lock Haven and Jessica Gnan (Shawn) of St. Marys; his son, James Long (Ashley) of Kersey; two step-daughters: Kimberly Cashmer (David) of Weedville and Jennifer Greenthaner (Jeff) of St. Marys; ten grandchildren: Lucy, Rayne, Maya, Nevaeh, Owen, Michaela, Mitchell, Makenzie, Cody, and Ellie; two great-grandchildren: Griffin and Emerson; and a brother, Ronald Long (Wendy) of Kersey.

Jim was a member of the Elks and Eagles Clubs, the American Legion, and was an avid Harley Davidson rider.  He enjoyed hunting and was meticulous about everything, especially his cars, yard, garden, and taking care of his ferns.  He was a kind man and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 22, 2023 at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home.  Full military honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.

There will be no visitation.

Memorial donations, if desired may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693 or to the Elk County Catholic School System, 600 Maurus Street, St. Marys, PA 15857.

  4. To the entire family, I will forever remember Jimmy’s smile and his never ending kindness. He and Elyse were one of the first friends Al introduced me to on my first Harley ride. From then on there was never a time he didn’t stop to talk catch up ask how we were and if we were still riding etc … he will be missed by so many. Our sincerest condolences Allen and Shelley Frey
