Joan E. Hutton, 84, of 19860 Bennetts Valley Highway, Byrnedale, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021, at her home.
She was born October 6, 1936, in Byrnedale, daughter of the late Stephen and Concetta “Jennie” Micale Kuchy. She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Bennetts Valley Schools.
Joan was a former employee of Sylvania and was owner of the former Log Cabin Inn in Weedville from 1977 to 1993. For many years she sold Stanley Home Products and in 1990 she received her license to sell insurance and investments.
In 1957, Joan married George F. Hutton, who preceded her in death on February 28, 2013.
She is survived by her daughters: Rita Shutters and her husband Andy of Weedville; Zita Longo of Byrnedale; and Valerie Hutton Strobel and her husband Udo of Brighton, MI; four grandchildren: Nesha Daugherty (Anthony), Molly Lecker McIntosh (Ben), Tiffany Hutton, and Samuel Hutton; four great-grandchildren: Desiree Wilson, Dalton Daugherty, Elle Snedden, and Reese Snedden; and by her sister, Judy Winkler of Weedville.
In addition to her husband and parents, Joan was preceded in death by her son, Mark S. Hutton on October 5, 2010; a grandson, Jacob Hutton on September 23, 2010; and by a sister, Rose Hedberg.
Joan was a member of the Penfield Free Methodist Church, with her faith in God being the most important part of her life. She would often visit the residents of Christ the King Manor and the DuBois Nursing Home, and would frequently drive others to anywhere they needed to be. Joan was also a member of the Lonely Widows Club in St. Marys. Whether it was through her work or time serving others, everyone knew Joan.
There will be no visitation.
A private Funeral Service will be held at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, with the Rev. Wally Mapes officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1645 West Eighth Street, Erie, PA 16505, or to Boys Town, 14100 Crawford Street, Boys Town, NE 68010.
So sorry to hear my cousin, Joan, has left us. She was a wonderful person, always smiling, pleasant, and outgoing. My sister Lillian and I visited with Joan, Judy, and Judy’s daughters a few years back. It was a short visit, but did it ever bring back memories of my boyhood years at the old farmhouse in Byrnedale with my Uncle Steve and Aunt Jenny. My mom and dad took us down there almost every other weekend in the summer back in the 60’s. Joan took us on a tour around the old stomping grounds. She will be missed. You guys have always been the best. Love you all!
My deepest sympathy and prayers to the family of Joan!! We have been friends for many years and she was a very inspiring person. I am very sad to hear of her passing, but am comforted that she is with our Lord….
Sad to hear of Joan’s passing. My sympathy to all of you at this sad time. Remembering back to the first day I met Joan……it was at the Log Cabin Inn….She needed someone to hang curtains on a window….I joked that I don’t do windows….but after some coaxing, I did. She was a remarkable lady and I’m sure she will be missed as well as remembered…So sorry for your loss and may God bless you all.
Although I married into your family and things didn’t turn out as we all hoped they would, I will always consider you all family. Joan (JoJo) was the sweetest, most loving, generous and selfless person I have ever met. The last time I saw her was in October and she made it a point to show me her church bulletins and she had continuously kept me in her prayers and prayer requests even now. I loved her very much and she will always hold a special place in my heart. God Bless you all, I love you. Although she will be missed she has finally gone home.
I will never forget seeing Dad’s face light up when he saw Joan walk into his Atlanta, GA nursing home! It was such a pleasure to get to spend time with Joan and Rita & Zita after so many years. What a blessing she was even when I was just a little kid who sometimes got dropped at her door. Despite not much contact since early childhood, I always remembered that she took good care of me when I was little. Sitting in the back seat next to Joan and talking with her from Maryland to Atlanta, it was easy to see why Dad loved her. John and I stayed w Zita a couple of times, and Joan joined us for delicious homemade dinners. John especially loved her lemon pie! While she wasn’t my mom, she was the mother of my two older sisters, and she could not have been a better mom to them! John and I will both remember her with much love in our hearts. We will try, but if we cannot get there for her service, please know that she is with the Lord and happier than she has ever been. Lean on your faith like Joan did, she did so much to lead others to the new life she found. She is with us in our hearts.
