Lynn E. Denio | 96

February 7, 1926 - August 23, 2022

Lynn E. Denio, 96, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of 1465 Rosely Road, St. Marys, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at Elk Haven, after a brief illness.

He was born February 7, 1926, in Costello, PA, son of the late Melvin and Lula Yentzer Denio. Lynn moved to St. Marys at age 16 and went on to work at the Stackpole Carbon Company, retiring in 1988 after 45 years of service.

On May 28, 1949, in the Sacred Heart Church, Lynn married Marion K. Shadd, who survives. They were blessed with over 73 years of marriage.

Also surviving are two daughters: Ginny Nissel (Jim) of Kersey and Barbara Makufka (William) of St. Marys; three sons: Tom Denio (Denise) of Mechanicsburg, Frank Denio (Margaret) of St. Marys, and Steve Denio (Mary Beth) of Kersey; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and by 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Lynn was preceded in death by two sons: Dan and Karl Denio; two grandsons: Matthew and Jesse Denio; four sisters: Gen Keller, Laura Wakely, Cleo Snyder, and Arda Herbstritt; and by five brothers: Leslie Denio, Tom and Grail Denio in infancy, and Wesley and Mel Denio at birth. Lynn was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Lynn was a member of the Queen of the World Church. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served from 1944 until 1946, during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Lynn enjoyed spending his time fishing and bowling.

There will be no visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Elk County Catholic School System, 600 Maurus Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 or to the St. Marys Public Library, 127 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857.

  3. He was such a sweetheart at Silver Creek. I would always wave to him as he sat on the couch in the foyer & he waved back.
    My sympathy to Ginny, Ashley & the entire Denio Family. Heaven gained a beautiful soul & his struggle is now over.
