Melvin A. Luhr, 81, of 136 Martin Road, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at his residence after a brief illness.
He was born May 21, 1939, in St. Marys, son of the late Edward A. and Ruth Wendel Luhr. Melvin was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1957. He was involved in the powdered metal industry for many years. He was a former employee of the Keystone Carbon Company for eighteen years and was owner of the former Quality Pressed Metals. Melvin always kept busy, he took great pride in learning the refrigeration business on his own and enjoyed doing this on the side.
On February 17, 1968, in Havelock, NC, Melvin married Julianne “Judy” Miller, who survives. Together they shared 62 years of love and marriage. He is also survived by two daughters, Christine Hansen (Dennis) of St. Marys and Kathleen Schlimm (Mike Rooker) of Dagus Mines; his two sons, Steven Luhr (Melissa) of St. Marys and John Luhr (Corinna) of Mt. Laurel, NJ; six grandchildren: Kelsey Hansen, Nathan Hansen, Steven Lee Luhr, Leanne Ruffner, Richard Schlimm, and Jessica Luhr; four great-grandchildren: Brianne Ruffner, Marissa Ruffner, Jacob Ruffner, and Averi Schlimm; his sister, Patricia Pearson (Mike) of St. Marys, PA; his brother, Jerome Luhr of Johnsonburg, PA.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth, in infancy and by his sister-in-law, Alma Jean Luhr.
Melvin was a member of the Queen of the World Church. He was a member of the St. Marys Sportsmen’s Club and was proud of his service in the United States Marine Corp from 1957 to 1960. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved to hunt, fish, and go camping.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Saturday, November 28, 2020, from 8:30 AM until 9:30 AM.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Community Nurses, Inc., Hospice, 757 Johnsonburg Road, Suite 200, St. Marys, PA 15857.
