Samuel Tate | 96

June 29, 1924 - January 2, 2021

Samuel Tate, 96, of 107 Random Road, St. Marys, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Pinecrest Manor.

He was born June 29, 1924, in Bruin, PA, son of the late Guiseppe (Joe) and Concetta (Nancy) Provit Tate.

On May 21, 1949, in the St. Mary’s Church in Kittanning, PA, Samuel married Delores Rosenberger, who survives.  In 1960, Samuel and Delores relocated their family to St. Marys, PA to build and open the Dairy Queen. For twenty-five years, Samuel’s dedication and love for his work made him recognizable to everyone in town. With satisfaction in his accomplishment, he retired from the business in 1986.

Samuel is survived by a daughter, Christina Hagan (David Adams) of Canonsburg, PA; two sons: Samuel Tate (Anita) of Adams Basin, NY, and Daniel Tate of Weedville, PA; eight grandchildren: Peter Tate (Elizabeth), Adam Tate (Amy), Samantha Nedzinski (Jason), Stacey Webster (Thomas), Stephanie Tate, Jacob Hagan (James Gray), Julia Praskavich (John), and Joy Strennen (Matthew); and by thirteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Samuel was preceded in death by three sisters: Louise DeNardo, Pearl Chemelli, and Rose Kammerdiener; three brothers: Vincent, Peter, and Philip; and his daughter-in-law, Sally Tate.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Samuel was a member of the United States Army during World War II.  He took great pride working alongside the medics during this time.  He was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures that life had to offer.  Samuel enjoyed being with his family, hunting, fishing in Florida, spending time at camp, and woodworking.

There will be no visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Michael Gabler, OSB, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to Pinecrest Manor, 763 Johnsonburg Road, St. Marys, PA  15857, or to a favorite charity of one’s choice.
